About Neon In Nevada
Neon in Nevada is a project that was created in part to preserve the iconic signs that were, and many still are, found across the state, but also as a way to allow people to interact with these unique images like never before. An interactive digital archive with thousands of pictures of neon signs in Nevada will be available to the public in August 2021. Since neon signs are increasingly under threat of demolition or removal from its original context, this project is imperative in preserving the rich history of neon in Nevada, as well as exploring neon's unique significance to the state. The University of Nevada, Reno Libraries have partnered with University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries, the Nevada Historical Society and many neon experts and enthusiasts to collect and curate images for the coming archive. For over a year members of the team have been traveling far and wide in Nevada to collect images. This means people will also get to learn some of the history and stories from rural towns like Battle Mountain, Yerginton, and Winnemucca. This is a collaborative and exciting project determined to preserve the history and artistry of neon in the state that glows all hours of the night.
